Cleaning the dishwasher: step-by-step guide & maintenance tips

The filter catches food residues and becomes clogged over time. This is the most common cause of drainage problems and poor washing results.

1. Turn off the device.
2. First, remove the lower spray arm so that you can more easily access the filter.
3. Loosen the filter combination and remove the loose parts.
4. Rinse away food residues and scrub the filter with a brush under running water.
5. Reassemble the filter — pay attention to the marked arrows that should face each other.

Behind the filter is the drain pump. Small objects like cherry pits, glass shards, or bones can block the impeller.

1. Scoop the water out of the rinse area with a cup.
2. Wear protective gloves — watch out for glass shards.
3. Remove the cover of the drain pump by prying it off.
4. Check for foreign objects and remove them.
5. Check if the impeller rotates smoothly.
6. Click the cover back into place.

Clogged holes in the spray arms cause uneven water distribution and poor washing results.

1. Loosen the spray arms (top and bottom).
2. Rinse them under running water.
3. Use a toothpick or needle to clear clogged holes.
4. Reattach them and check if they can rotate freely.

Regeneration salt protects the dishwasher from limescale and is essential for a long life of your appliance. Refill when the light comes on. Additionally, use a descaling tablet every 3 months in an empty wash on a high programme.

Incorrect loading is an underestimated cause of poor washing results.

• Lower basket: plates and pots facing the spray arms.
• Upper basket: glasses, cups and small bowls upside down.
• Cutlery basket: knives with the point down, forks and spoons alternately.
• Large crockery: always check if the spray arms can still rotate freely after loading.
• ECO programme: energy-efficient but longer — choose a normal programme if you want to wash quickly.
