Zanussi tumble dryer error codes: what do they mean?
Zanussi tumble dryers display errors as E-codes on the display. Zanussi is part of the Electrolux group — the error codes are identical to those of AEG and Electrolux tumble dryers.
Zanussi tumble dryer E51 or E52 — motor fault
What does it mean?
The drum motor does not start or stops unexpectedly during the drying programme.
Possible causes:
- Overloading of the drum
- Defective motor brushes (in older models)
- Defective circuit board
What can you do yourself?
- Remove some of the laundry — a maximum of three quarters of the drum capacity.
- Reset the machine: unplug it, wait 5 minutes, plug it back in.
- Start a short programme.
Does E51 remain? Then the motor brushes or the circuit board are defective. Book a repair with We.repair.
Zanussi tumble dryer E61 or E66 — heating problem
What does it mean?
The tumble dryer does not heat or heats insufficiently. The laundry remains damp after the programme.
Possible causes:
- Heating element or thermostat defective
- Fluff filter heavily blocked — air circulation blocked
- For heat pump dryer: heat exchanger blocked
What can you do yourself?
- Clean the fluff filter (after each use).
- For heat pump dryer: also clean the heat exchanger at the bottom of the appliance (monthly).
- Remove the laundry, reset the machine and start again.
Does E61 remain? Then the heating element or the thermostat is defective. Book a repair with We.repair.
Zanussi tumble dryer E71 — temperature sensor fault
What does it mean?
The NTC temperature sensor does not transmit a correct signal. The tumble dryer cannot measure the temperature correctly.
Possible causes:
- Temporary electronic fault
- Defective NTC sensor
- Damaged wiring to the sensor
What can you do yourself?
- Reset the machine: unplug, wait 10 minutes, plug back in.
- Start a short programme.
Does E71 keep coming back? Then the sensor needs to be replaced. Book a repair with We.repair.
Zanussi tumble dryer E80 — circuit board fault
What does it mean?
E80 indicates a fault in the main circuit board or the control panel. The tumble dryer does not respond to buttons or does not start.
Possible causes:
- Power failure or voltage spike
- Defective circuit board
What can you do yourself?
- Unplug from the socket.
- Wait at least 10 minutes.
- Reconnect and try again.
Does E80 still appear? Then the circuit board is defective. Book a repair with We.repair.
My Zanussi tumble dryer is not drying (no error code)
Possible causes:
- Lint filter blocked (most common cause)
- Heat exchanger blocked (heat pump dryer)
- Condensate tank full (dryer with condensate tank)
- Load too large
What can you do yourself?
- Clean the lint filter — this should be done after every drying cycle.
- Check if the condensate tank is empty.
- For heat pump dryer: open the flap at the bottom and clean the heat exchanger with water.
- Reduce the load.
Is the machine still not drying? Book a repair with We.repair.
My Zanussi tumble dryer is making noise
Possible causes:
- Foreign object (coin, zip) in the drum
- Worn drum bearing
- Loose deep insulation or felt seal around the drum
What can you do yourself?
- Check the drum for loose objects (empty pockets before washing).
- Turn the drum by hand — do you feel resistance or hear a grinding noise? Then the bearings are defective.
Book a repair with We.repair if the noise persists.
3 tips to prevent faults with your Zanussi tumble dryer
1. Clean the lint filter after each drying cycle
A clogged lint filter is the most common cause of poor drying performance and overheating (E61, E66). The filter is usually located inside the door or at the top of the drum opening. Empty it after each cycle.
2. Clean the heat exchanger monthly (heat pump dryer)
With heat pump dryers, dust also accumulates in the heat exchanger at the bottom of the appliance. Open the flap at the front, remove the heat exchanger, and rinse it under the tap.
3. Empty the condensate tank after each cycle (condensation dryer)
A full condensate tank stops the drying programme. Empty the tank after each cycle or connect the tumble dryer to the drain for automatic drainage.
Frequently asked questions about Zanussi tumble dryer faults
E61 indicates a heating problem. First, check if the lint filter is clean. For a heat pump dryer: also clean the heat exchanger. Does E61 remain? Then the heating element or thermostat is defective.
The most common cause is a clogged lint filter or a full condensate tank. Clean the filter and empty the tank. If that doesn't help? Then the heating element or the heat exchanger (for heat pump dryers) may be defective.
E51 indicates a motor fault. The drum does not start or stops during the programme. Check if the machine is not overloaded and perform a reset. Does E51 remain? Then the motor brushes or the circuit board are defective.
Fixed price: €69 for travel and diagnosis, €110 extra for labour if repair is possible — maximum €179 excluding parts. No repair? Then you only pay €69. All repairs come with a 3-month warranty.
Almost always. A new tumble dryer costs €400 to €900. A repair of up to €179 is much more economical — especially for appliances younger than 10 years.
No. Our technicians live spread across Belgium and leave every morning from their own municipality. The necessary parts are delivered directly to their homes. This way we are quickly on site — without long travel distances and often already the next working day.
