AEG tumble dryer error codes and what they mean

Below are the codes that AEG documents for tumble dryers. Always try a reset first: unplug for 30 seconds and plug it back in.

What does error code E20 or C2 mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

The condensate water is not being pumped out, or there is a problem with the external drain hose. Check if the hose is correctly connected, does not kink or loop, and is not too long. If the code remains, the condensate pump is defective. This code does not apply to vented tumble dryers.

What does error code E40 mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

The door is not correctly closed or locked. AEG lists five causes: laundry that is caught between the door and rubber, a dirty or torn door seal, a dirty door lock, overloading, or a defective locking mechanism. Rearrange the laundry, close the door until you hear a click, and clean the seal. Only in the case of a defective lock is a technician needed.

What does error code E50 mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

A motor or software problem. The only meaningful self-help step is a reset. If the code persists, a technician is needed — AEG does not provide a part that you can replace yourself.

What does error code E60 mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

The heat source is not heating: the drum remains cold and the laundry stays wet. Clean the fluff filter and the condenser, ensure that the appliance has sufficient ventilation and that the space is larger than 10 to 12 m². Then test with a timer programme to see if the drum feels warm after 30 minutes. If it remains cold, then the heating element or — in the case of a heat pump model — the heat pump circuit is defective.

What does error code E70 mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

A problem with the temperature sensor. Unplug for two hours to fully reset the electronics. If the code persists, do not use the appliance further and call a technician.

What does error code E80 mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

The programme selection switch or the software. First, check if the selection knob is not between two programmes and perform a reset. This code only occurs in condenser and heat pump tumble dryers.

What does error code C6 mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

The moisture sensor is not measuring correctly and the cycle lasts longer than four and a half hours. A common and surprising cause: an ungrounded socket disrupts the moisture measurement. Also check if the filter and condenser are clean.

What does error code C8 mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

The temperature sensor. AEG does not provide a self-help step here: do not use the appliance and call a technician.

What does error code CD mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

The door lock or the locking mechanism. Close the door properly, ensure that no laundry is caught, and perform a reset. If the code persists, then the lock is defective.

What does error code CE or CF mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

An electronic fault. Turn off the appliance, unplug it, and call a technician. There is no self-help step.

What does error code EH0 mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

A power issue: too low or too high voltage, or an unstable power supply. Test the socket with another appliance and never use an extension lead. If the problem persists, a qualified electrician or technician is needed.

What does the message Err mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

This is not a fault but an operating error. It appears when you change a programme or option after the cycle has started, or when the selected option is not compatible with the programme. Turn the appliance off and on again and select the programme and options anew. For steam models with Iron Aid, Err means that the steam reservoir is empty.

What does the message dEn mean on my AEG tumble dryer?

The appliance is in shop demo mode. Unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in.

Common AEG tumble dryer problems without error code

Why is my AEG tumble dryer not drying properly?

With heat pump dryers, long cycles are normal, and every time you open the door, at least 30 minutes is added. Clean the lint filter — it may look clean but can still be blocked; you should be able to see through it when held up to the light. Also, descale the two metal moisture sensors in the drum with some vinegar; fabric softener residue interferes with the measurement. Also, pay attention to the ambient temperature: at 10 to 15 degrees, drying takes about 30 percent longer, and at 5 to 10 degrees, up to 50 percent.

Why is the water reservoir light on in my AEG tumble dryer?

The light normally comes on at the end of each cycle and also after the first cycle with an empty reservoir. If it stays on after turning off and on, or comes on early in the programme, there is water in the overflow tank. Clean the condenser or check if the drain hose is not kinked.

Why won't my AEG tumble dryer start?

Test the socket and fuse, close the door completely, and check the lock for damage. If the child lock is on — indicated by the padlock symbol — press the designated button for three to five seconds. Also, check if a programme has been selected and if the delayed start is not active. In case of overheating, the appliance must cool down for 30 to 60 minutes first.

Why is there water under my AEG tumble dryer?

Usually a blocked condensate pump or a filter that is clogged with dirt from the laundry. AEG does not recommend self-help here and refers directly to a technician.

Why does the fuse blow when I use my AEG tumble dryer?

Usually earth leakage current or short circuit. Never connect a washing machine and a tumble dryer to the same fuse group — together they exceed 13 amps — and never use an extension cord. Try a socket on a different group.

Maintenance of your AEG tumble dryer

Many AEG faults are not defects but overdue maintenance. Lint accumulates in the filters and the condenser, causing the appliance to work harder, run longer, and consume more. A clean tumble dryer dries faster, consumes less, and lasts significantly longer.

How do I clean the lint filter of my AEG tumble dryer?

Clean the lint filter after every cycle. Remove the lint layer by hand or with a damp cloth. Important: a filter that looks clean may still be blocked by an invisible layer of fabric softener residue. The test is simple — hold the filter up to the light. If you cannot see through it, rinse it under running water and let it dry completely before replacing it.

How do I clean the plinth filter of my AEG tumble dryer?

The plinth filter is located behind the flap at the bottom front and needs to be cleaned as soon as the appliance indicates. Open the flap, remove the filter, and if necessary, take off the plastic handle. Rinse it under running water, wipe away the lint with a damp cloth, and let it dry thoroughly.

Tip: such a filter costs little. If you buy a second one, you can continue using the appliance while the other one dries. You can also clean the filter in the washing machine at a maximum of 40 degrees and 600 spins.

How often should I clean the condenser of my AEG tumble dryer?

About every six months, or as soon as the condenser light comes on. A dirty condenser is the most common cause of poor drying results and error code E60. Rinse it under the tap and let it dry completely. Heat pump models have a finer heat exchanger that requires extra attention.

How do I descale the moisture sensors of my AEG tumble dryer?

In the drum are two metal strips that measure how damp the laundry still is. On models from 2011 onwards, they become covered with a layer of fabric softener residue, causing the machine to think that the laundry is already dry — or just keeps running for far too long. Wipe them clean with a cloth and some vinegar.

Also, make sure that the tumble dryer is plugged into a properly earthed socket: without earthing, those sensors measure incorrectly.

How do I ensure that my AEG tumble dryer does not run unnecessarily long?

Spin the laundry well in the washing machine before putting it in the tumble dryer, do not overload the machine, and sort by fabric type and thickness. Choose the right programme instead of defaulting to the longest. Keep the ambient temperature between 19 and 24 degrees: at 10 to 15 degrees, drying takes about 30 percent longer, and at 5 to 10 degrees, up to half longer. Every time you open the door during the programme, at least 30 minutes is added.

Finally, keep the user manual in your own language in an easily accessible place near the appliance.

Condenser dryer or heat pump — we repair both

AEG makes both condenser dryers and energy-efficient heat pump models, including the 6000, 7000 series with SensiDry, 8000 AbsoluteCare and 9000 AbsoluteCare Plus. The current generation carries model names like TR7, TR8 and TR9 with a city name; older devices are called Lavatherm.

The error codes are identical for all series. The difference lies in the repair: in a condenser dryer, a heating error usually points to the heating element or the thermostat, while in a heat pump model it is more likely to indicate the heat pump circuit or the compressor.

Frequently asked questions about AEG tumble dryer repairs

How much does an AEG tumble dryer repair cost?

Diagnosis at home costs €69. If the technician can repair it, you pay an additional €110 — a total of up to €179, regardless of how long the work takes. A second visit is included. Parts are charged separately.

Is it cheaper to repair an AEG tumble dryer than to buy a new one?

Almost always. A new AEG heat pump tumble dryer costs €700 to €1,200. For appliances younger than ten years, a repair costing up to €179 is the wisest choice.

Do you use original AEG parts?

Yes. We work with original parts or parts of equivalent quality. The technician will always inform you in advance about the cost.

How long does an AEG tumble dryer home repair take?

Most repairs are completed in one visit. If a part needs to be ordered, the technician will return a second time — that visit is included.

Do you also repair AEG appliances that are still under warranty?

Currently, we only repair appliances out of warranty. AEG provides a standard two-year manufacturer's warranty; if your tumble dryer is still within that period, please contact your seller or AEG.

Do you come to my municipality as well?

We.repair covers many municipalities throughout Belgium. Check the availability of our technicians or verify your postal code on our regional page.

Do your technicians have to leave from Vilvoorde every morning?

No. Our technicians live spread across Belgium and leave every morning from their own municipality. The necessary parts are delivered directly to their homes. This way, we are quickly on site — without long travel distances and often already the next working day.
